Evan's First Weeks

We certainly got off to a rough start didn't we Evan? I hate to say that as we drove to the hospital on July 6, I felt strangely sad, like I had let you down by scheduling an induction two and half weeks before your due date. Then sadness turned to worry when Peds was called just before you were born. Worry turned to gut wrenching anguish when one of the neonatal pediatricians entered my room the next morning to ask me questions like, "Are you and your husband related?".

We dreaded the worst in the immediate days that followed as we were told by a genetecist and neurologist that the list of potential diagnoses went from the floor to the ceiling. We asked ourselves if you would walk or have conversations with us. Your daddy and I took turns collapsing and consoling each other. The sky was falling on us. But after just two days, you started giving us hope. You started sucking more, and trying to open his eyes. On Thursday you did open them and we were thrilled.

Today, July 24th, you were diagnosed with Prader Willi, so at least we have some answers; yes you will walk and yes you will laugh with us and talk with us and for that we are happy and thankful. The road ahead will be bumpy at times as with anything but we'll get through it just like we did these torturous last few weeks. Our love for you and the amazing support of our family and friends will see us through (thank you everyone!).

Evan, your daddy, Andres and I love you to no end and so does the rest of the family. Just a few more days and you will be home with us, finally, we can't wait!

Evan, Can not wait to meet you, we have heard so many great things about you already. Your Mommy is a very brave woman, and Daddy is pretty tough as well. What a cutie your big brother is, but I'm sure you already know this. Tell Mommy and Daddy, if they need anything we're a phone call away. We love you all very much!
